In a normal year, the Hard Knocks production crew may have explored Donte Deayon’s life outside of camp or gotten to know Clay Johnston beyond the fact that his dad is pals with Brett Favre. In the 2020 version of Hard Knocks we instead got to see that while the crew had certainly found two personalities they enjoyed tracking for one or two shots per episode, the show was divided between two teams, star players instead of guys fighting for the last roster spot and the ongoing happenings in the world outside of football.
But one thing that will be like other Hard Knocks seasons is watching camp favorites have to walk into Sean McVay’s office and hear bad news: Not this time.
On Saturday, news is trickling in that both Deayon and Johnston didn’t make the final 53-man roster. Assuming he isn’t picked up by another team, Johnston is an obvious choice for one of the 16 spots on the practice squad. At 26, Deayon is a bit older than most practice squad players but he’s hung on this long with the Giants and then Rams for a reason. McVay may love his locker room presence and have a spot for Deayon, plus there isn’t a lot of cornerback depth on the team besides him.
#Rams CB Donte Deayon, whose energetic personality has been featured in Hard Knocks, will be waived today, source says. Possible addition to the practice squad if he clears.

Because of the way the show was shot this year, I’m not sure there is another player besides Johnston and Deayon who would qualify as a “Hard Knocks cut.” I’m pretty sure Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey are safe.
