Doc Walker on Washington Football Team's safety play: 'How hard is it?' originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
While they may not have given up 40 or 50 points to the Ravens as some predicted, Washington’s defense did struggle at times in a Week 4 loss to Baltimore. Many have pointed the finger at the safety position, which continued on Monday.
“You can scream until your lungs blow up as to why people keep running past our safeties,” Doc Walker, a former Super Bowl champion with Washington said on Team 980’s “Doc and Galdi Show” on Monday. “You don’t even know what they’re being coached, I can’t tell you what they’ve been coached to do.”
“Why does this happen with the kind of frequency... how hard is it? ‘Hey, this guy can really run, maybe I need to back up!’”
Baltimore connected for several long plays on Sunday, including a 50-yard touchdown run by Lamar Jackson and two scores of more than 20 yards Jackson to Mark Andrews. Next up for Washington? The Los Angeles Rams and Sean McVay’s potent offensive attack.
