MORELAND HILLS, Ohio

Suspicion: Chagrin Boulevard

Police responded to Luna Bakery around 10 a.m. on Oct. 9 concerning a report of a small caliber handgun found on the ground next to a parked motorcycle. The officer’s initial assessment -- that a permit holder had probably dropped the weapon -- proved to be correct.

Police took the gun for safekeeping and tracked the owner, who was very apologetic and thankful for its return, explaining that the holster must have kicked loose out of his boot as he was getting off his motorcycle. He was advised on being more conscientious in the future.

Damage to property: Chagrin River Road, Chagrin Boulevard

A caller reported that a semi-truck knocked down a stop sign around 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 9. Police could not locate the truck, which had reportedly gone into Chagrin Falls, and officers directed traffic briefly until the village service department put the salvageable sign back up by around 9 a.m.

Suspicion: Rydalwood Lane

A resident reported a car parked about three houses down with the occupants talking to each other around 6 p.m. on Oct. 8. When the caller asked if they needed help, they said they did not speak English.

Damage to property: Murwood Drive

A caller reported a cement truck that was stuck and possibly caught in wires around 3 p.m. on Oct. 14. The truck owner contacted a heavy wrecker to have it removed.

Complaints (general): Windrush Drive

A resident came to the station around noon on Oct. 12 to report that a Biden campaign sign had been stolen between 8:15 and 9:30 a.m.

Parking complaint: Pebblebrook Lane

Responding to a report of a landscaping truck blocking the roadway around noon on Oct. 6, workers moved the trailer off the street and were told to obtain a permit to continue working in the village.

Neighbor trouble: Giles Road

A resident reported there were two cut logs leaning up against the other side of the fence at the rear of his property around 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 9 and that he wanted to prep the fence for winter. No one was home at the other residence, so police moved the logs.

Car crash: Chagrin Boulevard

A Pontiac G6 had to be winched out and towed to the owner’s home after going off the side of the road on Oct. 11 shortly after midnight.
