We hunt down the facts, no matter how hard it is. - vtdigger.org

Dear Reader,

Even as we cover breaking and daily news, VTDigger’s journalists are always developing rigorous investigative reports on facts that have been scattered, buried by time or intentionally kept secret.

Yesterday we published the first story in a new investigative series called the Tarnished Badge. The series examines ethical issues that dog more than 28 Vermont police officers and reveals gaping holes in Vermont’s system for finding allegations against law enforcement officers.

Throughout our investigation of these so-called “Brady letters,” VTDigger submitted dozens and dozens of public records requests. Reporter Alan J. Keays pored over lists, letters and emails — carefully gathering information needed to present a full picture of the facts to the public.

This kind of reporting takes time, money, expertise, and source development. Records requests can be expensive and piecing together information they reveal is time consuming. Steady support from our readership is vital to making these types of investigations possible.

Member contributions, especially monthly donations of all levels, are key to our news gathering operation. If you value our balanced, fact-based reporting, please join us today and help us end our 2020 membership drive.

Right now, every donation will be matched by a dozen generous supporters of VTDigger, including the Knight Foundation, Democracy Fund, the Periwinkle Foundation and Betsy and Dan Chodorkoff.

We are less than 750 members away from reaching our goal and sending 40,000 meals to the Vermont Foodbank. Will you support us by becoming a member this holiday season?

We will send 10 meals on your behalf to the Vermont Foodbank to help combat rising hunger rates in Vermont as the feds withdraw food aid funding at the end of December.

With gratitude,

Anne Galloway
Founder and Editor, VTDigger
