It’s the end of the year, but I’ll spare you one of those predictions-for-2021 columns because, well, the predictions are almost always wrong.
I mean, who could have predicted 10% of the disasters that befell us in 2020, which, as I wrote the other day, won’t really end until Jan. 20 when Joe Biden presumably takes the oath? What’s the old line — it is difficult to make predictions, especially about the future.
But we can, I guess, stick to a few sure things. Whatever happens in the Georgia Senate runoffs, Mitch McConnell will make headaches for Biden; Biden’s popularity will vary; Dems-in-disarray headlines will proliferate; Trump will desperately (successfully?) try to stay relevant; Cory Gardner will get a new (well-paying?) job; Hick will be a senator (but where will he slot as a member of the Dem caucus?); police shootings of unarmed Black men will continue; the anti-vaxxers will make headlines as the vaccines become more readily available; doxxing is now a DougCo GOP thing; a parade of Republican would-be contenders — all hoping Trump won’t run in 2024 — will start making the Iowa-New Hampshire rounds despite the fact that Iowa and New Hampshire played so little role in the latest Dem primary season; a slightly smaller parade of would-be Republican contenders will start lining up for the 2022 elections vs. Jared Polis and Michael Bennet; the Rockies will suck, the Broncos will suck, the Nuggets won’t suck and neither will the Avalanche; players on each team will test positive for COVID.
In the near term, on Jan. 5, we’ll see the Senate runoffs in Georgia. Who doesn’t predict the results will end up in court?

On Jan. 6, Congress will approve the Electoral College vote and, though it may be a near thing, Rudy’s head will not explode, I think. On Jan. 20 comes the new president, and I don’t even want to think about what the reaction from the Trumpists might be.
Here are a few possibilities to ponder for the day: Will Trump show up for the inauguration, will he be at Mar-a-Lago instead or will he go somewhere to hold a counter-programming rally?

Oh, and one more thing, here’s a real prediction: Anyone who believes that the post-Trump era will show us the way to a return to normal will learn the hard lesson that there is no normal. But there may be — I don’t want to go out too far on a limb here — fewer presidential tweets.
So, instead of a look ahead, we’ll try the easier route and take a look back at what has already happened, although, history shows us, we may not even understand much of that for years to come.
I hope you don’t think this is pandering, but these are my most-read columns, according to our crack analytics team, since I joined The Sun in May.
In other words, these are your picks, so don’t blame me if you have a problem with them. Many of the columns touch on a number of topics and are hard to classify, but of the 10, a quick look shows 3 Trump columns, 3 COVID columns, 2 Gardners, 1 Hancock and 1 Biden.
The one on dementia and Biden was by far the most read and also, by far, the most personal column for me because it included the story of my wife, Susie, who died of Alzheimer’s, and of my hard-earned knowledge about the horrors of the disease.
