Ash from a 50-to-60 acre fire burning in the Nason Ridge area fell on homes on the south shore of Lake Wenatchee on Wednesday but the fire was still reported to be at least seven miles from the nearest home.
The Nason Fire is burning on the west end of the ridge above Rainy Pass, about 17 miles northwest of Plain.
U.S. Forest Service crews were assigned to the fire while local fire crews were monitoring the fire’s progress to ensure it doesn’t burn any closer to structures, according to Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue.
The U.S. Forest Service said a crew removed brush on an existing road to allow its firefighters easier access to the fire, which was started by lightning last week.
The is in steep, timbered terrain and is difficult to access.
The Forest Service said today that 30 people are assigned to the fire and helicopter support has been requested.
