The NFL instituted a lot of new rules this season regarding COVID-19 protocols. The NFL also put into place a rule to eliminate taunting, one that includes possible suspensions for multiple violations. Well, Sunday’s preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers included one of the most bizarre “taunting” penalties ever, and surely this is a sign of things to come.

Yikes. Colts running back Benny LeMay had an impressive run where nobody on the Panthers could take him down. But, the referee came in and threw a flag after LeMay flexed a little bit on the defenders after finally getting tackled.
Yes, this is apparently what the NFL wants to do away with after the new taunting policy. But, this is a bit much, to be frank.
This is just the preseason, so perhaps the NFL and the referees go to the video board and examine some penalties to narrow down what is and isn’t taunting, but if they call things like this, it will be extremely hard for the players to eliminate, especially those who have been in the NFL for quite some time.
This situation regarding the taunting rules is one that hasn’t gone over too well with many, and after this call on Sunday, it surely might receive more backlash.
