It was an ugly game for most of the battle between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets in Week 11. Neither team looked like they wanted to win, but Brain Flores’ team eventually walked away with a 24-17 victory, their third in a row after losing seven straight.

The Dolphins’ defense came to play for most of the game, giving up one big play to rookie wide receiver Elijah Moore that really changed how the game felt. They were forcing Joe Flacco to make inaccurate passes and kept them from getting in the end zone when it mattered. A lot of that credit goes to the turnover forced by Brandon Jones in the first half.

It was another game plan that brought extra rushers from the secondary to keep the quarterback guessing, and it worked for the most part.

Offensively, the Dolphins still left a lot to be desired. They weren’t able to get much going for a majority of the contest, which is something we’ve said all too often about the group. Despite getting a Jaylen Waddle rushing touchdown out of the wildcat early in the game, the package was used way too frequently for not a ton of success.

Tua Tagovailoa was able to connect with Mack Hollins on a 65-yard touchdown down the left sideline that gave them the lead midway through the third quarter. This touchdown was the Dolphins’ longest offensive play this season, surpassing Albert Wilson’s 64-yard catch against Baltimore in Week 10.

Miami’s offensive coordinators and Tagovailoa need to come up with something new because their game plans aren’t all that hard to stop.

On top of the struggles on offense, Jason Sanders missed a 32-yard field goal heading into halftime that was just a completely demoralizing moment. After going 36-for-39 (92.3%) last season, Sanders is just 13-for-18 (72.2%) this year.

While it was nice to see the team earn their third win in as many games, if this game wasn’t against the Jets, the outcome likely would’ve been much different.
