LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The massively popular global hard seltzer market made headlines everywhere in the summer of 2021, generating $4.3 billion in sales in the United States.

Now, NM State and Bosque Brewing Company have joined forces to get in on the action.

In a joint announcement made Monday by NM State Director of Athletics Mario Moccia and Bosque Brewing Company, NM State became the second university in the nation to boast a collegiately-licensed hard seltzer. Available now in all of its taprooms across the state, Bosque Brewing Company's 1888 Hard Seltzer gives NM State a foothold in what is arguably the biggest booming beverage market in the nation.

"This collaboration is a natural extension of our collegiate licensed consumable line," commented Moccia. "The seltzer market has exploded over the course of the last year and we are excited to once again work with Bosque Brewing Company. As I have said before, a New Mexico business, owned by alumni of New Mexico State University, producing a product that Aggie Nation can enjoy is a win-win-win situation."

1888 Hard Seltzer is a cranberry tea flavored hard seltzer which compliments Bosque Brewing Company's line of New Leaf hard seltzer. It is also the latest flavor profile to grace the company's taprooms.

Fans can get a first taste of 1888 Hard Seltzer from 5-6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the Pan American Center. The outdoor debut event for 1888 Hard Seltzer will take place outside the northeast entrance to the home of the Aggies and will coincide with the season openers for NM State's men's and women's basketball teams that same day. In order to attend, fans must by 21 years of age or older and possess a ticket to either the women's basketball game against Western New Mexico at 4:00 p.m. that afternoon, the men's basketball game against UC Irvine at 7:00 p.m. that evening or both.

"We are very excited to release another beverage under the 1888 brand," stated Bosque Brewing Chief Executive Officer Gabe Jensen. "This is a fun product and we believe the flavor will have a wide appeal, especially among those that aren't necessarily in the mood for a beer. It is a deep crimson color, which has obvious nods to Aggie Athletics and I think will also turn some heads. If the buzz around the office is any indication, I think we have another hit on our hands!"

Not only does Tuesday's announcement add another libation to the ever-growing family of NM State-branded beverages, it gives NM State another branch on the Bosque Brewing Company beverage offerings. Back in 2017, NM State and Bosque Brewing Company partnered to introduce Pistol Pete's 1888 Ale. The beer is available at over 300 locations in the state of New Mexico and took home a bronze medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival (GABF). To date, licensing revenues for Pistol Pete's 1888 Ale has helped NM State haul in excess of $50,000 for its athletics programs and student-athletes.

With Tuesday's announcement, NM State athletics now has an officially-licensed beer (Pistol Pete's 1888 Ale), wine (Pistol Pete's Crimson Legacy), whiskey (Pistol Pete's Six Shooter), coffee ("A" Mountain Roast) and hard seltzer in its beverage arsenal.
