"Overall we had some of our pairs do a really good job today," said Cesar Benatti, Head Coach of the `Runners. "They play hard and concentrated on their game. As a team, we were inconsistent. This inconsistency cost us the first match for sure. We did a pretty good job against USC, playing head-to-head with them…We need to find out exactly what we need to do in order to get those other pairs where they need to be to play more consistently."
CSUB's strongest performers of the day were the third pairing of Brooke Boiseau and Anna Unke. The `Runner duo defeated Houston Baptist in straight sets before pushing USC's No. 3s to a tight second set before eventually falling, 21-10 and 23-21. That matchup featured a familiar face as Boiseau and Unke played against former `Runner and USC graduate transfer Emily Hansen.
Benatti also commented on his No. 3 pair's performance on Tuesday: "Brooke and Anna had a really good day. They played hard and they executed the little things very well. They were the most consistent pair we had today."
Bakersfield also picked up an exhibition win against second-ranked USC as Seleisa Elisaia and Alaina Gendale outlasted the Trojan duo for a 23-21 and 21-18 victory.
