HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood (1-6) began the game with a bang, as Adriana Shipp-Davis knocked down a triple on the game's first possession. After hitting her first, Shipp-Davis stayed hot throughout the quarter, scoring 11 total points on a three for four mark from outside the arc. Despite the Lancers' hot start, Drexel (5-1) was able to keep pace, as five Dragons scored in the first quarter, leading to a 16-15 Longwood lead in the first quarter.

Drexel's offense came out more aggressively in the second, led by leading scorer Keishana Washington (27.0 ppg). The Dragons outscored the Lancers 23-12 and at one point held a 12-point lead. However, Longwood wasn't going away easily, as a Steph Davis layup with time expiring in the 2nd quarter kept the Lancers within striking distance down 38-28 at half.

The Lancers and Dragons traded buckets in the third, including two acrobatic finishes at the rim by Anne-Hamilton LeRoy in the frame. It looked as if Drexel was getting ready to pull away towards the end of the quarter, holding a 16-point lead with just under two minutes to play, but the Lancers kept fighting. And-one finishes from Steph Davis and Adriana Shipp-Davis put Longwood down 59-45 headed into the final quarter.

Longwood came out of the gates determined to come back in the fourth, leading a 9-5 run to begin the final frame. Bailey Williams connected on a half-court pass to Janay Turner, who converted on an and-one chance to electrify the Willett crowd. Although the Lancers outscored Drexel 16-15 in the quarter, it would be the Dragons who came out victorious tonight in Farmville.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"After watching film, we talked about how we can have more movement away from the ball," said head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery on the team's offense tonight. "I was glad that we were able to execute a little bit better tonight."

"I thought we had a lot of fight and were really gritty," said Lang-Montgomery. "I thought we had a chance to get it to single digits, but they are a great team who has a very special player [Keishana Washington] who made big shots when it counted."

"We'll use this time to prepare for final exams and give our bodies a chance to rest," said Lang-Montgomery on the team's 11-day break. "This will be good rest time and will also allow us to get in the gym and work on things we want to improve on offensively and defensively."

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Tonight's game marks the 2nd all-time matchup between the Lancers and the Dragons, the first of which was played last season.
