FARMINGTON (WGME) -- Businesses in Farmington are flooded, and skiers at Sugarloaf have been stuck, after several roadways washed out.
Route 27 in Carrabassett Valley heading towards Sugarloaf opened up Tuesday evening after several people at the resort had been stuck there since Monday.
It’s just one area across a region that has been devastated by flooding damage.
“There was just water everywhere, rivers rushing, yeah I mean, bridges were covered in water and logs, trees were down,” Cedar Andrus, who was trapped at Sugarloaf, said.
The past two days, historic flooding across Franklin County has torn up roads and left businesses under water, like on Main Street in Farmington.
“Honestly it just looked like a big swimming pool,” Farmington resident Zach Ball said.
In New Vineyard, one family lost part of their metal roof on a house they’re rehabbing.
“We couldn’t make it out of our driveway to come check out the damage,” New Vineyard resident Melissa Lovejoy said. “It’s just heartbreaking.”
The older tiles below were damaged, and they will be expensive to replace.
“If we did the work ourselves, probably $10,000-$15,000,” Lovejoy said.
Emergency management officials expect repairs across Franklin County to take several days.
“Franklin County has a lot of damage,” Franklin County EMA Director Courtney Knapp said.
In Carrabassett Valley, Route 27 crumbled Monday night, and a pickup truck was swallowed into the roadway a short ways away.
“There’s going to be every effort put forth by, you know, everybody involved in rebuilding roads,” Knapp said.
Tuesday afternoon, crews were working to temporarily repair the roadway, hitting a snag when a dump truck caught a power line.
Work halted for CMP to turn power off.
The damaged roadway and several others left people trapped at Sugarloaf for the past day before re-opening Tuesday afternoon.
Andrus was skiing over the weekend and tried to find a way out Monday night.
“We almost drove right off the road, there’s a whole section of the road that was gone,” Andrus said. “So, yeah we’re stuck up here.”
Sugarloaf says they’re planning to re-open the mountain for skiing on Thursday.
