Expect snow flurries to be flying around Indiana late Monday morning until the evening.
INDIANAPOLIS — While the planting season hasn't started yet, many Hoosiers are watching their tulips and daffodils bloom across the state. However, they could take a hit Sunday night as temperatures drop to the mid-20s. Wind chills may be in the teens overnight. When temperatures drop to mid-20s and colder, that type of cold can damage sensitive plants like new blooms.
- Frost: 32-26 degrees
- Freeze: 28-32 degrees
- Hard freeze: below 28 degrees
Most of us will be in the hard freeze category tonight as temperatures hit 23 to 27 degrees.
Cold air continues into Monday night and Tuesday morning. Another freeze will be possible. However, as northwest winds back off and southwest winds gradually come back, it may be a touch warmer in western Indiana.
We're not just talking about the cold, but also the chances of snow! It won't be a lot, though. Expect snow flurries to be flying around Indiana Monday late morning until evening. The best chance for some snow showers will be north and east of Indianapolis.
Unless you get a quick burst, we are not expecting accumulations across central Indiana, at least nothing impactful. Areas in the medium blue may see some heavier snow showers. A light dusting here and there on grassy surfaces may be possible. Accumulating snow is possible in northern Indiana in the typical lake effect snow belts.
This colder air doesn't last long! We don't necessarily get warm this week, but temperatures should rebound to some 50s by Tuesday. The next rain chance will be Friday with a few sprinkles.
No major systems are expected until after this coming weekend.
