Don’t freak out. This is not turning into a seltzer blog, but not too long ago I told you about Reuben’s Brews, one of the best-loved and most-respected breweries in Seattle, delving into the world of seltzer. It is not a betrayal. It is not sacrilege. It’s just seltzer. There is a beer angle to this story, I promise.
Anyway, I actually drank the Reuben’s Fruitfizz Seltzer and, in my opinion, the lemon-lime version was the best hard seltzer I’d ever tasted. Turns out, the folks at Seattle Met magazine agree. Their tasting panel almost unanimously agreed to name Reuben’s seltzer “Seattle’s Unofficial Fizzy Booze of the Summer.”
Reuben’s Brews is a beer brewery at its core, of course. Beer is the company’s core competency. Now, they’ve beautifully blurred the line between beer and seltzer, offering up a hopped seltzer. No fruit, just Sabro hops.
“Something fun is in the cooler at the Taproom right now for a very limited time: cans of FRUITFIZZ: SABRO!” said an announcement from Reuben’s Brews. “Fruitfizz: Sabro takes our US Beer Open-winning hard seltzer and dry-hops it with Cryo Sabro hops instead of fruit, lending unique sweet coconut flavors to this refreshing brew.”
This is a very interesting concept brought to life. In recent years we’ve all marveled at the way hop growers have introduced hop varieties that are best described as tropical and fruity. Well, there you go. Evolution. Innovation. It’s what the best craft breweries do.
“We’ve been experimenting with draft-only Fruitfizz releases this summer and this is the first one to make it into a limited can release, and is exclusively available at the Taproom for a limited time. You can also purchase online for pickup at our Taproom now!“
