Jeffrey Hard

HALLOWELL – If you asked people who Jeffrey Hard was, they’d all have a different story to tell. He was a great man, a caring son, a trusting partner, a loving father, and loyal friend.

Jeffrey Stites Hard passed away March 15, 2022 at 2 p.m. at home surround by family.

He leaves behind his son, Jeffrey Hard Jr., daughter, Amanda Hard Grady; mother, Anita Hard; partner, Teresa Lincoln; his siblings Helen Fullerton, Nancy Cristoforo, Hugh Hard; and all those who loved him.

He was born to Robert A. Hard (predeceased), and Anita Ray Hard (living) March 24, 1953.

Jeff was as normal as a normal kid could be. He was the second oldest in the Hard family. Exploring, experiencing and somewhat getting himself into the thick of things seemed to be a bit of his specialty. His mother would say “he never gave me any trouble”. He would tell us stories of spending time in California with his sister, Helen, visiting with his sister, Nancy, and spending time with his brother, Hugh.

He graduated from Lewport High School class of 1967.

After high school, he did attend college at Arizona State, as well as North Eastern University, in Boston.

Just two years after graduating, he would be one of many to attend the monumental and iconic music festival that we all know as Woodstock. It was one of his most cherished and memorable experiences.

Over his life he had a range of jobs and held positions in the jewelry industry, truck driving, and even delivering as a distributor for Little Debbie’s. His children have fond memories of Dad coming home and being able to pick their favorite Little Debbie box from the truck for the week.

His hobbies were always a surprise. He had such a knack for plants, a green thumb you could say. He would tell those close to him that sun on the left side of the house in the morning was very different from sun on the right side of the house in the afternoon. As time went on he became quite the master at nursing his plants from seed to flower.

He also took a liking to working on his cars. He always enjoyed tinkering on the ones he owned and was very much a believer in “you can always fix it yourself”. Owning many Audis over the years he would take great pride in letting everyone know what he replaced himself. Telling us the story as if he was slaying a dragon with just a wrench and an oil pan. He most of the time prevailed.

Hiking and the great outdoors made him happy. Being in the trees, by the river and just immersed in nature is where Jeff felt most at home. Camping and going on adventures with his partner Teresa Lincoln (of 18 years) always put a smile on his face. Taking trips all over Maine to find the best trails, camping spots, and views created some of his best memories.

His deep love for music is where many of us connect with this charismatic man. A strong appreciation for the Blues always got him bobbing his head when he heard it. He would ask everyone around him to name that tune at the Age Right Fitness. Nine times out of ten, he was the person who knew the name.

As an avid storyteller he always had the right story for the occasion. His easy going demeanor always made his stories very interesting and leaving his listeners wondering “how did he get himself into this one?” And “how was he going to get himself out of it”. He took great pride in his adventures always giving us the “short version” but slowly elaborating into quite the tale.

Arrangements have been made for a Celebration of Life which will be held, Saturday April 30 at 1 p.m., 5 Benjamin Dr., Hallowell. We will be creating a video memoir of Jeff and those around him. Any videos or pictures can be emailed to [email protected].

Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church St., Augusta where memories and condolences may be shared with the family at http://www.khrfuneralhomes.com.
